DOCTOR STRANGE in the Multiverse of Madness
On this project I had the pleasure of leading the CFX team for the first time. Our main task was simulating the "cloak of levitation" which isn't just a costume piece but actually a magical, emoting character and friend of Doctor Strange.
Behind the TRIX: The Making of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
In order to deliver a believable "cloak of levitation", we had to go far beyond the standard simulation of "cloth flapping in the wind". Parts of the cloak - especially around around the collar - had to stay true to the performance the animators created for the shot while the lower part of the cloak needed to react dynamically to it's overall movement. In addition, we had to ensure that we provide full artdirectability over the shape of the cloak to form destinct "hero poses" and silhouetts whenever required. This meant we had to be able to seamlessly blend between animation and simulation at any given time. After a lot of hard work, I am incredibly pround to take you with me for a tour behind the TRIX! Let's go!
